Maybe you’ve been avoiding the Galaxy S9 because of its storage. Although it has 64GB wide open, you could be someone who often handles large file sizes. That’s why Samsung has just announced bigger storage sizes for the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+.

Both varieties of the 2018 flagship are now offered with your choice of 128GB or 256GB of storage for photos, movies, and more.

The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ with 128GB or 256GB of storage are sold in Lilac Purple, Coral Blue, and Midnight Black. Samsung isn’t limiting the storage sizes to any particular color.

More storage comes at a price, so it’s no surprise to see that the two new sizes are very expensive. The 128GB model is $770 for the Galaxy S9 and $890 for the Galaxy S9+. If you need to double even that amount, the 256GB model jumps to $820 and $940.

Remember, though, that Samsung includes a microSD card slot with its flagship. With that said, you might not need to grab one of these massive storage sizes.

Following the acceptance of pre-orders this week, units will be available for immediate purchase on May 18. Those who pre-order will also receive a free Gear IconX (2018). Samsung, by the way, will be the exclusive seller of these models in the United States.

This Galaxy Note 9 concept makes the iPhone X look mediocre

This Galaxy Note 9 concept makes the iPhone X look mediocre

Based on early reports, Samsung’s Galaxy Note 9 may include some powerful new tech, including an in-display fingerprint sensor. That right there is enough to pique our interest, and if it looks anything like this concept from DBS Designing, the device will make the iPhone X feel old by comparison.

All of the staples are accounted for: there’s S Pen support, a curved all-glass design, and a dual-camera setup. But the formula is improved upon thanks to a display that’s almost entirely bezel-less, giving users an expanded canvas to watch movies and jot down notes.

The elimination of the rear-facing fingerprint sensor gives the device a much cleaner look, too, allowing Samsung’s unrivaled design to stand out even more. If you thought the Galaxy S9 looked nice, wait until you see this Galaxy Note 9 concept. The changes are small, but they make a huge difference.

Although we’re still months away from the Note 9’s typical fall launch timeframe, a recent report claimed Samsung may introduce the device earlier than usual, possibly to beat Apple’s new trio of iPhone X devices to market.

There have been conflicting reports about the Note 9 launching with an in-display fingerprint sensor, and after seeing this concept, we really hope Samsung can pull it off. As we experienced with the Vivo phone at CES, using a device with the technology feels so futuristic. What better way to take the technology mainstream than on Samsung’s next flagship?

Samsung Fast Wireless Charging Pad (2018)

  • Price: $70, eligible for Prime shipping
  • Color(s): Black, White

Samsung makes among the best wireless chargers around. That’s why they tend to be pretty expensive unless you find a deal somewhere. Alongside the Galaxy S9, Samsung released a new wireless charging pad for $70.

The new model boasts advanced Qi technology, 9W charging speeds, dual-charging coils to hold a better connection, an LED indicator for status updates, and a built-in fan to ensure the Galaxy S9 stays cool. It does, of course, also work with Apple’s iPhone X and iPhone 8. If you have a mobile device compatible with the Qi standard, you can use this accessory. But you came searching for a wireless charging to use with the Galaxy S9, so here you go.

Older models of Samsung’s wireless chargers are still on the market; however, we recommend pairing that shiny new Galaxy S9 with a shiny new accessory. Go big or go home, folks.

Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus break download speed records on Telstra’s network

Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus break download speed records on Telstra’s network
[ad_1]

While we wait for a 5G mobile network future, Telstra is already breaking records on its existing 4G network.

In tests using Samsung’s latest Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus flagship handsets, Australia’s top telco was able to record a maximum download speed of 1.03Gbps in a gigabit-enabled part of Sydney.

“This is the first time in Australia that speeds in excess of 1Gbps have been demonstrated on a commercial network with a commercial smartphone,” said Kevin Teoh, Telstra’s Head of Mobile.

Back to reality

While test speeds might be as high as 1Gbps, it is important to note that real-world usage will typically be lower than that.

Telstra has said that customers using phones that support high-speed LTE standards will typically record speeds of anywhere between 5Mbps to 300Mbps on the telco’s 4GX network.

These upper ranges are currently only seen in areas covered by the telco’s gigabit-enabled network – the CBDs of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide, with deployment in Perth currently underway.

The future is soon

“Cracking the magic gigabit mark on smartphones is an exciting milestone.” Mr Teoh added. “As smartphones evolve and we move into the 5G era there will be a new raft of sophisticated features that are enabled by reliably fast data speeds.”

“High-quality augmented reality, virtual personal assistants that anticipate needs and virtual doctors that monitor vital signs are just some of the technologies that are on the horizon,” he concluded.

This seems to be a step forward in Telstra’s plans to ramp up its 4G speeds to 2Gbps in “select high traffic areas” .

Fixing your Samsung Galaxy phone just got a lot easier

Samsung on Wednesday announced an important partnership with uBreakiFix in an effort to provide same-day repair services for Galaxy owners. The program is expected to offer over 300 Samsung Care authorized locations, with more locations to come by the end of 2018. The partnership will expand by a further 200 locations in 2019.

The program will allow customers to schedule an appointment online or walk in and drop their phone off. Samsung said some repairs can be performed within two hours or less, though there are caveats to that claim, like if your device has been damaged by liquid.

“At Samsung, our goal is to provide Samsung Galaxy owners with a customer first care experience that is as innovative as our products,” said Michael Lawder, Senior Vice President of Customer Care at Samsung. “This announcement marks a fundamental shift in our care offerings to consumers and underscores our commitment to provide Samsung customers with support anywhere, anytime our customers need it.”

According to Samsung, customers can get a front and back screen replacement, battery replacement, port and camera repairs, and other in and out-of-warranty services. Devices supported by the program include the Galaxy S6 up to the Galaxy S9, and the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy Note 8. All Plus models are supported as well.

uBreakiFix, which is also an official partner of Google to fix Pixel phones, offers an array of services, from repair tracking to free diagnostics to a 90-day warranty. And it’s not just smartphones the company can fix, but game consoles, tablets, and computers, too.

We made AR emoji using the Samsung Galaxy S9

We made AR emoji using the Samsung Galaxy S9
[ad_1]

We’ve been testing the new Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus for the past few days and one of its interesting features is “AR Emoji” which is Samsung’s take on Apple’s Animoji launched with the iPhone X.

Samsung wants to go a step further and create emojis that look like you. It does this by capturing your face using the front camera and then taking you through a few steps to customize it to the way you actually look.

We thought we’d test this out on a few members of the TechRadar team to see just how good the AR Emoji are with the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus.

Watch the video below.

So there you have it. Do these AR emoji look anything like us? That’s definitely something we can argue about but the way we see it, AR Emoji is a feature that, like Apple’s Animoji, is more of a party trick than one you’ll use on a daily basis.

Samsung Galaxy S9 has ‘best-performing smartphone display’ according to DisplayMate

Samsung Galaxy S9 has ‘best-performing smartphone display’ according to DisplayMate
[ad_1]

In recent years, it’s seemed that every time a new Samsung flagship smartphone has come out, DisplayMate has rated the screen as the best it’d ever tested. It happened with the Galaxy S7 and Note 7, it happened with the Note 8, and now it’s happened with the Galaxy S9.

Testing firm DisplayMate has issued a report on the Galaxy S9 screen, deeming it “the best-performing smartphone display that we have ever tested” and giving it an A+ rating. “Samsung continues systematically improving OLED displays,” DisplayMate says in its report.

The report goes on to praise Samsung for its efforts to optimize the picture quality and color accuracy of its OLED display with factory display calibration. DisplayMate also found that the GS9 has the lowest screen reflectance level of any smartphone it’s ever measured, which is important for screen readability, picture quality, and color accuracy in ambient light. Viewing angles are good, too, with DisplayMate saying that the GS9 has a “relatively small decrease” in brightness and color shift when viewing the screen at an angle.

The Galaxy S9 features a 5.8-inch 2960×1440 Super AMOLED display. Samsung has been using Super AMOLED panels in its flagship smartphones for years, and it’s clear that the company sees its displays as a big way to help its phones stand out from the competition.

You can read DisplayMate’s full report on the Galaxy S9 screen at the link below. Will you be getting a Galaxy S9 or Galaxy S9+ when they launch next month?
