Eager to take the fight to Chinese smartphone manufacturers, Samsung is planning to launch a new range of budget Galaxy M series phones in 2019, with the handsets expected to arrive in India first, as reported by Reuters.

Samsung’s decision to debut the new budget handset line in India is believed to be a direct result of the South Korean company’s market share having recently been overtaken by Xiaomi in the region.

Expected to arrive in India by the end of January (or around a month before the flagship Galaxy S10 is revealed), the Galaxy M10, M20 and M30 will be sold exclusively through Samsung’s online store and Amazon’s Indian site, with plans for a full global rollout to come shortly after.

Cheap… but good

“The M series has been built around and incepted around Indian millennial consumers,” said Asim Warsi, head of Samsung’s mobile business in India, telling Reuters that the new phones are expected to bring about a doubling in online sales of Samsung phones in the country.

Though specs for the M Series are still unconfirmed, Warsi has stated that the phones will feature large batteries and fast charging, backing up previous rumors that the M20 would feature a massive 5,000mAh battery – the largest of any Samsung handset to date.

Developed and made in India, the M Series handsets will be priced from 10,000 rupees (around $142 / £110 / AU$197) to 20,000 rupees (around $284 / £220 / AU$394).

With 2018 in the books, it’s time to start looking forward to 2019 and all the fantastic smartphones it will bring. The first major flagship we’re expecting to see is Samsung’s Galaxy S10, and you can see how stunning it might look in new renders by Concept Creator.

We have a pretty good idea of what the Galaxy S10 is going to look like by now. Early leaks and concepts show it’ll boast a new edge-to-edge display by incorporating Samsung’s Infinity-O display.

The concept shows off what the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10 Plus might look like, and if it’s anywhere close to this, we’ll be ready to pounce. Concept Creator imagined the smaller variant with just one front-facing camera while the Plus model has two cameras.

Moving on to the back, the Galaxy S10 will jump aboard the triple-camera fad with one of its own. Google and Apple get most of the smartphone photography limelight but Samsung should not be ignored as it makes some of the most impressive smartphone cameras around. It’ll be interesting to see what it can do with three lenses.

Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy S10 at Mobile World Congress in February. Here’s hoping it looks just like Concept Creator’s renders.

The Samsung Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10 Plus may have a party trick feature relating to the front facing camera after information and images appeared online about a light up camera ring.

According to Ice Universe – who has been leaking a large amount of Galaxy S10 rumors recently – the illuminated ring around the front-facing, pin hole camera will initially debut on the Galaxy A8s before making its way to the flagship duo.

It appears the Galaxy S10 will have a single front-facing camera, with a circular hole design appearing in one leaked image, while another image shows an oval ring design, which will apparently surround the dual front cameras on the Galaxy S10 Plus.

In terms of function, it looks like the ring will glow when you fire up the camera or use facial recognition to unlock the handset – which means it may not be bright enough to act as a flash for the camera.

Dual front cameras for Galaxy S10 Plus

Ice Universe has also provided us with another possible look (from Weibo) at the front design of the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus thanks to images apparently showing a screen cover for the handset.

In the top right corner there’s a cut out for what appears to be two front-facing cameras, which lines up with the oval camera ring light in the above Galaxy S10 Plus leak.

The panel also hints at thinner bezels above and below the display compared to the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus – a rumor we’ve heard several times already – although all this still needs to be taken with a pinch of salt as none of the sources are verified.

What are you hoping for from the Samsung Galaxy S10 next year? An improved camera? Even thinner display bezels? A fingerprint scanner built right into the screen? One of the upgrades tipped to be on the way is a boost to wireless charging speeds.

Reputable tipster Ice Universe has tweeted that “Samsung smartphone 15w charging will become history” – apparently referring to the wireless Quick Charge 2.0 technology used on the latest Samsung handsets. It’s a figure that other handset makers have improved massively on recently, with the Huawei P20 Pro (for example) charging at 40 watts.

The latest version of the Qualcomm tech that Samsung adapts for its own wireless charging purposes can now run at a maximum of 27w, so it’s possible that Samsung’s 2019 phones will hit this level or get somewhere close to it.

Smartphone specs appeal

Wireless charging speed is one of the few areas where Samsung is currently lagging behind the competition, so we wouldn’t be surprised to see the feature get a boost when the S10 and S10 Plus phones appear – which should be around the end of February.

With only a couple of months to go before the official launch, we’ve already heard plenty of rumor and speculation about what’s in store from Samsung. The new handsets are being tipped to bring with them an improved display with even thinner bezels, as well as a quad-lens rear camera on the Galaxy S10 Plus model.

Throw in the very latest in wireless charging technology and it’s difficult to see how Samsung could make the phones any better – at least until Samsung’s long-rumored folding phone hits the market, which we’re also expecting to be in 2019.

Samsung will reportedly introduce a new camera feature known as Bright Night, a new mode inspired by Google’s groundbreaking Night Sight feature. The search giant’s feature allows its Pixel devices to take natural-looking photos in low light conditions.

A reference to Samsung’s Bright Night feature was apparently found in the latest Android Pie build for Samsung’s Galaxy Note 9, according to XDA-Developers. Samsung’s new feature will allow users to “take bright pictures even in very dark conditions.”

Bright Night will allegedly work by taking multiple shots and using software to combine them together, similar to Google’s Night Sight. If it’s anything close to Google’s feature, Samsung’s Bright Night could be one of the company’s best new features.

While there’s a reference to the feature in the latest Android Pie build for Samsung’s Galaxy Note 9, XDA-Developers speculates Bright Night will debut with the Galaxy S10, which is expected to be announced at the end of February 2019.

The Galaxy S10 is rumored to feature an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor, an Infinity-O display, 5G support, and Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 855 processor.

Marvel reached out to Adam McKay about Guardians of the Galaxy 3
[products limit=”8″ columns=”4″ category=”android” cat_operator=”AND”]

Marvel has been quiet about the development of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The movie is in a suspended state after director James Gunn was fired this past summer. Now, the studio is apparently searching for a successor, with Step Brothers director Adam McKay a target.

McKay has enjoyed a long and successful career in Hollywood, directing Anchorman, The Other Guys, the Oscar nominated The Big Short and most recently Vice.

McKay revealed the interesting development talking to the Happy, Sad, Confused, Podcast. He confirmed that he was considered as director but that didn’t really go anywhere. However, that wasn’t the end of his possible involvement with Marvel. McKay revealed that after the Guardians 3 talks went nowhere, Kevin Feige talked to him about directing an Inhumans movie.

“We talked a little bit,” McKay said. “Yeah, we were kicking around the idea of the Inhumans at one point. We’re always kind of talking. I think Feige is just the greatest and what they’re doing is amazing.”

Like the Guardians talk, that didn’t really go anywhere either. It makes a lot of sense that he would be considered for Guardians 3. Much like Gunn, McKay comes from comedic roots, something that’s instrumental to the identity of the franchise.

In looking for a possible replacement for Gunn, McKay seems like the person you’d want to lead the next Guardians movie. Seeing as that didn’t result in a working relationship, both McKay and Marvel have moved on. But as he noted, him and Feige are always talking, so don’t rule out a possible McKay Marvel movie just yet.

Top-Tier Galaxy S10 Model Leaks Again, And It’s a Total Beast
[products limit=”8″ columns=”4″ category=”android” cat_operator=”AND”]

Samsung appears to be set on taking an aggressive approach next year. As many as four Galaxy S10 models could be introduced in 2019, but only one of them will offer a collection of groundbreaking technologies. Within the South Korean company, high-ranking officials are aiming to push boundaries and remain dominant.

The entire lineup would offer more options to consumers; however, the most expensive member of this long-rumored foursome looks to put all of Samsung’s competitors to shame in every way.

Known as ‘Beyond X’ internally, the top-tier model might ship with industry-leading specifications as well as features that can’t be found on any other mainstream smartphone. It would make Samsung a legitimate innovator once again.

In a tweet, mobile industry insider Ice Universe revealed what to expect from Samsung’s Beyond X.

The top-tier model should offer a 6.7-inch Quad HD+ Super AMOLED display, 5G support, and 3D cameras on both sides. It’ll be sold as an anniversary edition, mind you. Samsung intends on selling a Galaxy S10 and a Galaxy S10+, and a Galaxy S10 Lite should join them. Additionally, Beyond X might be limited in availability to where 5G networks are live or about to be activated.

From the latest report, it sounds like Beyond X will be sold in South Korea and the United States at the very least. But it could arrive in other markets later on. And, to let everyone know about 5G support, Samsung will apparently use a “very cool” logo somewhere on the exterior.

Don’t be surprised if this top-tier model sits somewhere around $1,250. Samsung’s Galaxy Note 9 sits at $1,000, and hardware manufacturers are showing no signs of returning to reasonable pricing. Throw in the fact that Beyond X celebrates a 10-year anniversary, and Samsung can run wild to attract its loyal customers.

The Galaxy S10 shouldn’t struggle to stand out. Apple doesn’t release new iPhone models until the fall, and Android partners are struggling to challenge Samsung on a global scale. Other brands are ahead in select markets, but Samsung and its Galaxy devices continue to outsell everything else around the world.

Remember, Samsung also has the Infinity Flex Display in development. The flexible OLED panel should arrive on a consumer-ready device within the next few months. Between the Galaxy S10 and the Infinity Flex Display, all eyes are on Samsung in the first half of 2019. That’s exactly what the company wants, but it also needs to execute on these ambitious ideas. We’ll found out how these products stack up soon enough.
