Sea of Thieves news and updates: what’s new on the Sea of Thieves
[ad_1]

[Update: Rare has outlined its plans for adding brand new content to Sea of Thieves as we roll towards May. Read on to our ‘What’s Coming’ section to find out more.]

On March 20 2018, Rare’s sandbox multiplayer pirate adventure Sea of Thieves was unleashed on the world. After a lot of hard work the developer now has, well, more hard work. Being an open-ended online service game, Sea of Thieves will be subject to plenty of updated and improvements throughout its lifetime.

To help you keep on top of what’s new and what’s coming up, we’ve put together this handy page which will be updated with all the latest announcements.

Don’t forget to take a look at our full Sea of Thieves review as well as our guide to survival on the high seas

What’s new in Sea of Thieves?

Rare has released the latest patch (1.0.2) for Sea of Thieves and it’s bringing a handful of changes to the game which will address some recent player gripes and clear up a few more of the launch issues that have been reported.

The patch notes state that ship respawn distance has now changed. This means that when your ship sinks, it’ll respawn much further away from the ship that sank it – out of visible view to be more precise. This change is in response to some player feedback which said that respawning back in the midst of battle was resulting in players being repeatedly attacked with no chance of escape.

Another change is that you’ll now have to drop any item you’re holding before the mermaids will teleport you back to your ship. This is to solve a problem faced by many players who found they were losing treasure because they weren’t aware they’d be forced to drop it when teleported. This is something we encountered ourselves, so this does put the point across far more clearly without having to directly say on screen that you’ll lose treasure.

There are also the usual performance improvements and bug fixes as well as a few known issues. If you’re one of the players that’s unable to equip a second weapon, Rare suggests using this support article, and if you can’t see your in-game DLC you should try this support article

What’s coming up in Sea of Thieves

Rare has detailed some of its new content plans in a recent blog post. Now, the new additions won’t be immediate as the developer has said that its plans for the rest of April will be to address the top feedback points of its players.

However, as we go into the month of May, Rare says players can expect to see the beginnings of some new content being introduced.

The first content update ill be called The Hungering Deep and it will see the introduction of a brand new AI threat which, the post says, players will have to “work together to discover and defeat.” Alongside this, there will be a new items, new mechanics and a few unique awards.

It’s not entirely clear what the new AI threat will be but given players will need to discover it we’re imagining another mythical monster similar to the Kraken. Perhaps something like the Aspidochelone, a giant creature which is often mistaken for an island? Or the devil whale hunted in Moby Dick?

May will also bring about a live events schedule which will introduce “fun new ways to play with weekly events and rewards.”

May won’t, of course, be the end of the updates and Rare gave a glimpse of what is planned for the summer months. One update called Foresaken Shores will introduce an entirely new though “perilous” area to the world with another new AI enemy. Cursed Sails is another update which will bring about a new AI threat (could we finally see The Flying Dutchman?) with a brand new ship type for players.

There’s no sign of what this ship type could be but we wonder if it could be something capable of carrying more than four players (a Man o’ War perhaps?) for crews that are of a mind to expand.

Though Rare hasn’t revealed everything that will be added in its future updates, we do know that it’s planning to introduce the game’s cosmetic microtransactions at this time, which will include pets to purchase.

As far as long-term plans are concerned, Rare apparently intends to add new guilds for a wider-variety of missions at some point and also extend the end-game for those who eventually achieve Legendary Pirate status.

How can I play it?

Sea of Thieves is now available on PC and Xbox One. It’s possible to purchase the game outright, but you can also pick up an Xbox Game Pass subscription where the entire game is included.

If you’re not sure whether Sea of Thieves is for you, picking up a Game Pass trial for free and playing the game for a short time through it is a good way to find out.

The game is not a port for PC or Xbox, it works equally on both and supports cross-play. While the console version has locked frame rates of 30fps, the PC version’s are unlocked. Mouse, keyboard and controllers are all supported across console and PC.

PUBG news and updates: what’s new in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds

PUBG news and updates: what’s new in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds
[ad_1]

When it comes to Battle Royale games, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (or PUBG for those already inducted into its action) is a name you need to know.

Over the past year the game has had a stratospheric rise, going from a Steam Early Access title to a full Xbox release, with a massive following on streaming services like Twitch and Mixer

Available on PC and Xbox One, it’ll throw you into a 100 player death match in a constantly shrinking map where you or your team must fight to be the last alive. If you win you get to see the coveted “winner winner chicken dinner” appear on your screen. And you’ll undoubtedly screenshot it because it doesn’t appear often.

Bluepoint has been slower in updates recently due to its efforts to curb cheating in the game. However, it looks like the team is ready to get on with its 2018 roadmap and here you’ll find information on the latest additions to both the Xbox One and PC versions of the game as well as what’s planned for the future.

What’s the latest PUBG update for PC?

PC update 7 is here

The most recent patch for PUBG on PC is a good deal more significant than its Xbox update, bringing in some brand new features as well as a handful of big fixes.

One of the more significant additions is a new emote system which sees 12 standard emotes added to the game: hello, go, yes, thank you, clap, laugh, surrender, rage, you’re done, no, provoke, and come here. There will be more in the future, but these are enough for basic communication at the moment.

There’s also now an in-game friends list which can be up to 50 players long. Regardless of which platform they’re playing on, players can be friends and as it’s a one-way system there’s no need to send requests. Conveniently there’s also now a main menu voice chat so that you can speak to your team while not actually in the game.

Outside of these new features there are also some quality of life improvements which should see reduced lag and a significant reduction in bugs.

What’s the latest PUBG update for Xbox One?

Xbox update 10 has now landed

In the latest Xbox update for PUBG, players will see no new content but there are a variety of bug fixes that should greatly improve consistency of play.

One of the bigger fixes is for player revivals which were being reported as continuing despite being interrupted. Outside of this issues which saw players unable to cut parachute cables when getting stuck on landing have been solved as well as an annoying issue which saw B and Y buttons staying active in gameplay while in the map view.

What’s coming to PUBG on PC?

Updates for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds have slowed somewhat in recent months as a result of the development team’s focus on reducing instances of cheating in the game (the update for which has been held back). However, there are big plans for the game throughout 2018 which have been laid out in a March blog post.

Starting in March, Bluehole is planning to push out a major update every two months for PC, with each either changing systems or adding new content.

April will see a brand new 4×4 map launched on the game’s experimental test server. This new map is much smaller than any we’ve seen in PUBG before and it will have a higher player density and shorter match times. Bluepoint is promising that this will result in much faster and intense gameplay.

There’s also a slightly larger 8×8 map in the works though details on this are thinner on the ground.

There are also talks around brand new game modes (though these are still in their early stages) as well as new vehicles and weapons, many of which are planned for the first half of the year.

There will of course be continued stability improvements as well as ongoing efforts to curb cheating.

2018 will see Bluepoint building the foundations for an eSports league and a lot of work will be done on improving spectator experience.

Though the list of changes in the works are not exhaustive, they’re a good idea of the ambitious things to come.

What’s coming to PUBG on Xbox One?

The future for PUBG on Xbox One seems to be more focused on improving the quality of player experience because, as Bluepoint itself admits, the game’s performance on console is just not up to the standard it should be.

Console players can expect to see a patch released every two to three weeks which will focus on optimizing performance, UI, inventory UX, adding more personalized controller options and improving matchmaking.

Players can also expect to see those emotes that the PC version now has at some point down the line. But the biggest thing? The Miramar map will be coming to Xbox in early spring.

BlackBerry updates BBM for Android and iOS with new sticker shop, refined chat screen, more
[ad_1]

Shortly after announcing that it’s splitting BBM into three separate services, BlackBerry released a new version of its messaging app. The new version of BBM Messenger is available for both Android and iOS devices starting today, so if you’re still using it, then you should check for it in Google Play and App Store.

According to that BlackBerry announced today, this is a major update that brings many important improvements. For example, the chat screen in Android has been completely redesigned to look better than ever.

The chat bubbles have been redesigned as well, so you should now see them as speech bubbles. The colors of the bubbles have been changed to a lighter blue and white, and there’s a new patterned background that better fits the black text.

These improvements are now available for BBM users on Android, but BlackBerry promised they will make their way to App Store next month.

Furthermore, the menu bar has been moved from top to bottom in the Android version of BBM Messenger. The latest version of the app comes with a floating icon that helps users start Groups faster, as well as share to-do lists, calendars, and topics with friends.

The sticker shop has been revamped to make it easier for users to find what they’re looking for. It’s a mere reorganization of the shop, not really a completely redesigned.

Lastly, several new services have been added to the Discover menu for users in various regions. Since these are based on location, it doesn’t affect all BBM users.

In advance of this week’s Galaxy Note 8 unveiling, Samsung updates Bixby globally

In advance of this week’s Galaxy Note 8 unveiling, Samsung updates Bixby globally
[ad_1]

With the Samsung Galaxy Note 8’s unveiling this coming Wednesday pretty much a sure thing, Samsung has started rolling out updates for its personal assistant Bixby on a global basis. Updates to Bixby, Bixby Global Action, Bixby Dictation, Bixby Wakeup and Bixby PLM have been seen in markets such as the U.K., South Africa, India, Netherlands, Germany, France, Italy, Argentina, Afghanistan, Iran, the UAE, Australia, the Philippines, Malaysia  and Pakistan. While compatible handsets in those markets received the updates, Samsung still needs to press the button that will allow these Bixby related features to start working in the aforementioned markets.

Samsung could be getting ready to activate Bixby Voice in countries outside of the U.S. and South Korea, where it is already operational. There is some speculation that Bixby Voice will be enabled globally on August 22nd, the day before the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is announced. One report has the dictation feature working now in Germany, although the quality of the transcription apparently was nothing to write home about (okay, okay; pun intended). In other markets where the update was pushed out yesterday, like the U.K., the feature is not working.

If you want to see whether or not the dictation feature is working for you, and you don’t live in the U.S. or South Korea, press the Bixby key on your Samsung default QWERTY and start dictating. If it doesn’t work (which is likely), try again after Samsung unveils the latest version of its high-end phablet. The odds favor that it will work after the Galaxy Note 8 is introduced to the public.
