Spotify will make a special announcement in the coming weeks
[ad_1]

Spotify announced it will hold a special event on April 24 to make a “news announcement.” The event is being held in New York City, but that’s about all that can be ascertained from the invitation.

It’s unclear what the event will be about. One of the projects Spotify is rumored to be working on is voice controls for its app, which will allow users to control the app without the need of accessing the device’s voice assistant. This, along with a particular job posting, has led to rumblings about the possibility of incoming hardware in the form of a smart speaker.

Now that the Swedish streaming service has expanded its horizon with its IPO filing, wading into the waters of hardware seems like the next logical step.

That neither has been confirmed nor denied, but holding a special event seems like the perfect avenue to release a product like that. Then again, Spotify may just stick to revamping its current product, possibly announcing new pricing tiers beyond the available options.

In advance of this week’s Galaxy Note 8 unveiling, Samsung updates Bixby globally
[ad_1]

With the Samsung Galaxy Note 8’s unveiling this coming Wednesday pretty much a sure thing, Samsung has started rolling out updates for its personal assistant Bixby on a global basis. Updates to Bixby, Bixby Global Action, Bixby Dictation, Bixby Wakeup and Bixby PLM have been seen in markets such as the U.K., South Africa, India, Netherlands, Germany, France, Italy, Argentina, Afghanistan, Iran, the UAE, Australia, the Philippines, Malaysia  and Pakistan. While compatible handsets in those markets received the updates, Samsung still needs to press the button that will allow these Bixby related features to start working in the aforementioned markets.

Samsung could be getting ready to activate Bixby Voice in countries outside of the U.S. and South Korea, where it is already operational. There is some speculation that Bixby Voice will be enabled globally on August 22nd, the day before the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is announced. One report has the dictation feature working now in Germany, although the quality of the transcription apparently was nothing to write home about (okay, okay; pun intended). In other markets where the update was pushed out yesterday, like the U.K., the feature is not working.

If you want to see whether or not the dictation feature is working for you, and you don’t live in the U.S. or South Korea, press the Bixby key on your Samsung default QWERTY and start dictating. If it doesn’t work (which is likely), try again after Samsung unveils the latest version of its high-end phablet. The odds favor that it will work after the Galaxy Note 8 is introduced to the public.

Asus ZenFone 4 appears on GFXBench, revealing specs prior to next week’s unveiling
[ad_1]

The other day, Asus accidentally posted information about four upcoming ZenFone 4 models including the ZenFone 4, ZenFone 4 Selfie, ZenFone 4 Pro and the ZenFone 4 Max. Today, the Asus ZenFone 4 appeared on benchmark site GFXBench which revealed some of the handset’s specs. Let’s start with the 5.5-inch display, which has a 1080 x 1920 resolution. Powering the phone is an octa-core CPU running at a clock speed of 2.2GHz. The Adreno 508 GPU is on board, which suggests that it is the Snapdragon 630 SoC under the hood.

The GFXBench listing also indicates that the ZenFone 4 will come with 4GB of RAM along with 64GB of native storage. While only a single 12MP camera appeared on GFXBench, there is talk of a dual-camera setup (12MP + 8MP) for the phone. An 8MP front-facing camera will take care of selfies and video chats, and Android 7.1.1 is pre-installed.

While not part of the GFXBench listing, there is speculation that the ZenFone 4 will be equipped with a 3300mAh battery. In addition, a 1TB capacity microSD slot allows users to expand the amount of storage if necessary.

Asus will be unveiling its new ZenFone 4 models this coming Thursday, August 17th. The ZenFone 4 could be priced at 499 EUR for the version with 4GB of RAM. That is equivalent to $590 USD based on current exchange rates.
